Hello Everyone:

About a year ago (Maybe a little longer) I met one of the nicest fellow reef keepers here by the name of Arie and he quickly became a friend. He was from Jakarta/Bali and ended up going back home. He used to be active on this as well as other Reef discussion boards. Has ANYONE heard if he is OK? Last I heard he moved to Bali, but most of family lived in Jakarta.

Best,

-Alfred

I talked to Arie about 3 weeks ago. I haven't been able to call him or contact him since the Tsunami. From what I understand, nobody has internet, telephone or any real type of communication yet. I am really worried about him and his wife.I will as soon as I here from him let everyone know he is ok. He goes by the name Java on this board.

Kasei:

I lost his telephone number, could you please send it to me? I did send him an email, the last I heard from him was in August where he told me that he got married and moved to Bali. He is one of the nicest people I have met and hope he is OK.

I was using the internet to talk to him. I have no landline to call him on. I usually PM him from here and wait until he gets in touch with me. That is what I am waiting on now. He got married in June and was living in Jakarta. I am hoping for the best. Your right, he is one of the nicest people I have met.

guys, i've been thinking about donating to the red cross or some other kind of relief effort. i have no idea how, but would love to see this board come together and some kind of a donation as a whole, i couldn't take the lead cuz i wouldn't know what to do, but someone with experience in this area could. so much tragedy, i feel like i need to help in some way- what do you guys think of this idea??

As Justin said, jakarta and bali should not be affected much. lets home he is fine. but i am sure it will be quite a while till they have working internet again, they must be using all their efforts now for the relief rather than e-mail. As soon as they are back up and online, i am sure we will hear from java letting us know that he and is wife are ok.

Folks,

I have a close friend who is from Sri Lanka and has family (and his wife who is studying Law there). I have been in touch with him about donations etc. I too want to assist in the relief but hate the thought of sending money and it getting caught up in red tape etc.

What he recommended I do is to get the money to a church or temple in Staten Island (I'll get the real details from him) who is sending truckloads of stuff - my though is that this will have a direct impact on the peoples for these regions - FedEx has donated planes to fly the cargo over so, it seems like this is a good way to make sure the $$ get's there.

I will shoot everyone details as soon as I hear.

Sad, is all I can say - freaks me out just thinking about it. Peace for all who perished. Mother nature is not forgiving. Prayers to the families.

Jim
