I just came back from a weekend away to find my auto top-off has gone awry; leaving me with a small flood in my basement and a salinity level of 1.020. How quickly can I return the salinity to its original level of 1.025 (92g tank + 20g sump)?

Thanks in advance for some advise.

That's not that bad of a drop. What type of corals do you have? If it's SPS & clams I would bring it up slowly, over 4 - 5 hours. If it's LPS or soft corals I would bring it quicker, like 1 - 2 hours.

Good thing the flood was in the basement, unless you have a rug down there.

Thanks.

Mostly Zoos, mushrooms and some lps, no sps. So I'll add a salt over the next few hours.

And fortunately I've recently moved my sump to the basement laundry corner. So not only were no rugs involved, this helps me justify the two 1 1/4" holes I drilled in the living room floor.

Thanks,

Paul

I WOULD NOT BRING IT UP MORE THAN .02 every 12-24 hours!!

Fish will not be able to handle the drastic change after becoming accustomed to the .020 salinity..

It should take you about 2-3 days to get it back to normal.. but .020 is NOT BAD AT ALL.. raise to .022.. then tomorrow get it up to .023 .024.. next day .025 .026.. you will be right back on track.

good luck..

** all of this in MY BEST OPINION and exp. with a problems like this **
