Remove the rocks if you can, put them in a bucket with water and cover it .Do not stuff the bucket with rock use another one or two. This might work faster if you pop a small hole in the cover .This will allow a little light to go through .The anemones might come off the rocks on their own becauce they can't get enough light this may take a week.I found this out on my own by accident remember to count them before you put them in the bucket so you know how many are left.I'm not saying this is the only way i'm saying this is MY WAY.

There are a ton of recommended ways to get rid of them. Some people recommend Joe's Juice or something similar to that, which is widely available from the catalogs. Some people recommend putting kalkwasser on them. Some recommend other things. I recommend using a hypodermic needle to inject them with hot fresh water. You can also just as effectively use vinegar, lemon juice, or any combo of those. But, in short, IMO, injecting them until they melt is the most effective way.

Is there anything that gets rid of Aptasia FOR GOOD?

get rid of the rock.....lol....i'm sorry i couldn't resist.:biglaugh:
i've tried these methods:

putty never worked for me.

aiptasia-x, works fairly well and fun to watch the mf implodes but some came back after a month or so. need to be able to reach its mouth so it will eat the grenade.

hot fresh water injection- also killed the zoo it was near. sometimes it's in an area unreachable with a syringe. came back after a few months. don't know if it was the same one.

copperbanded butterfly...the only method that kept killing any aiptasia that came back. i haven't had any aiptasia in over a year.....since the copperband addition. unfortunately copperband is not easy to keep. the first one i had died the very next day eventhough it was in the lfs display for almost a year. i felt really bad. i didn't try another one for about a year.so far i am lucky with the current one.

I think he was looking for personal experiences from MR members (nothing beats that right?), not an RC mod trying to prove how smart he is.

Im not an RC mod silly.

Anyway, far enough.

Here are dozens of threads created in the past addressing this very issue. I found all of these local resources by doing a search on all threads that had 'Aptasia' in their titles!

Enjoy!

I wouldnt touch Aiptasia X again with a barge poll, Sure it kills them but a couple of weeks later and you will end up with more babies than you can handle.

Alot rave on about Berghia Nudibranch although i dont know how good these are, As My Copperband takes care of mine.

If you use kalk which imo works best overall out of the Potions and lotions,
Make sure you turn the flow off for a good half an hour and make the paste really thick and cover the whole Aiptasia.
Its not a good idea to kill everyone in sight in one go if you use Kalkwasser as it may play havoc with KH and PH not good if you have a fairly small volume of water.
Its best to kill off the biggest ones you have first .. then work your way down to the smaller ones.
Maybe add a few True Peppermints as these will eat the smaller ones.

Its a battle for everyone but can be won in the end.

What will a peppermint eat if you run out of aiptasia?

I have not run into problems with having more babies after using aiptasia-x, but I do get a couple every few weeks.

my 10 gal was infested with aiptasia..
i bought a peppermint and i bought two Berghia Nudibranch's.. they were all gone within a week.. i most have had at least 30 aiptasia in my lil tank.
peppermint shrimps are scavengers--they eat anything

If you buy peppermints make sure they are eating aiptasia from the reef shop you buy them from.

If aiptasia are too big the peppermints will not eat them.

Keep nutrients low and if you use aiptasia x make sure pumps are off and get them really good, mine like to appear near my wild clams on my live rock...they dont spread if you get them good and siphon out the gunk afterwards.

IMPORTANT REALIZATION - Aiptasia will never truly disappear from your tank, they will eventually reappear, small in number...

there nothing better then this (Berghia Nudibranch )I tried shrimp and I've never seen a peppermint shrimp touch a aptasia after adding atleast 50 when i had this issue. All those liquids $uck, what happens to the aptasia you don't see. Life long battle. The berghia get to the ones you see, and the ones you dont.
