i have to consult with my peers first.. lol

dremel with a diamond bit to widen the hole is that possible?

Why would anyone what to spend $7 for a bit and maybe even buy a dremel, then spend 1/2 hour cutting a hole with the possibility of cracking the tank?

Stopping a glass shop, ask them for a piece of 3"x3" 1/8" thick glass scrap and picking up a tube of silicone is alot safer and quicker. unless you cut your fingers off while holding the glass, or in your case, rear end somebody on the way.

Easy solution fix easy problems, glass holes are not easy to make bigger.

You guys are very creative and hillarious....but very helpful. thanks everyone!!! :) I originally was looking for something like the one below but with a gasket but didn't know what the name of it. I hope i can get this in home depot or Lowes. Or i'll seal it with a piece of glass like how House and Russ had suggestion. But don't have a 3 inch square but i'll be drilling a one inch hole later today and maybe plan to use that drill out piece to seal the tank.

And i'll not use my thumb to seal the hole! You guys are too much :tongue1::tongue1::tongue1:

Sam, I would get a half inch or 5/8 inch X half inch long plastic nut and bolt and tighten that up with caulk on them. Do you have any thumb screews lying around off an old reactor or something?

I think i might have, but i'll use aquarium silcone but most like i'll go with the mini bulkhead version. Thanks for your idea though.

Never seem them in HD or Lowes, you can buy them here:

http://www.airwaterice.com/product/PR-BU0404/Bulkhead_Union.html

You will also have to ask them for two blanking stems to plug up the bulkhead, they are not listed on the website.

I used these before for reactors I built, they don't come with a gasket but do seal pretty well. IMO this will cost you more $ and time than the glass patch idea.

i have the suction drill press with any size diamond bit. you can make the hole bigger.. then bulkhead it and cap it... i even have an extra 3/4" bulkhead if you want it with cap. never used it. with the right tool.. it can be made bigger. you need a crank operated steady press. Not to mention its a 110% way to insure the hole doesnt leak or give way. IMO. good luck! 347.614.1814

this will do it.

Sam, The pic you posted is a JG bulkhead. If you get a #11 oring from HD they seal pretty well...

Good job on making the repair the correct way, though.

B

Thanks Brett, i hope it doesn't leak Because i am sealing a sump that is running and the hole is just 1 inch above water, and that's y i originally plan to do the jg bulhead way but since i can't find something similar in Lowes, i went the patch way. thanks

these threads make me laugh, 20 people say get a bulkhead and cap it and the guy builds his own plug out of glass, VERY original though (for glass at least)

Thanks, it's still the method most recommend and i just happen to drill another tank so i used it to patch up the hole as i can't find the stuff i needed in Lowes....and doing that save me several bucks but went through lots of troubles. :tongue1:

I am looking for one of those kent float valves :lol2:

i went through all this so i can remove it and use it for my ato bin as i always forget to shut the RODI filter off overnight and cause floods :lol2:. so with this i hope i can sleep better now...lolz

Funny I should come across this thread, I'm thinking I might have to do the same thing. I have the same Kent float valve (works great) and an acrylic sump. The hole that makes is actually 5/8". I bought a 1/2" mpt plug in hopes the threads would take up the extra 1/8". We'll see. I'm wondering if my BK 160 Mini might work a little better with another inch of water as well as my baffles reducing more micro bubbles. I've got a new Blueline pump to install this weekend so maybe I'll give it a try. Hope your home made plug works!

You need about 24 hours for silicone to dry. Provided you cleaned everything well and used 100% silicone you should be good to go.
