I have a good amount of red algae growing on my sand. My water parameters are perfect and everything else in the tank is doing great.

Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe a little critter that likes to eat it?

Thanks for the help

they are black turbo grazers and also halloween hermit crabs that eat cano. I would do i black out to get it under control then maybe add more motion and check see if your lighting might need new bulbs

i'm having the same problem, today is day 1 of lights out.
all the bubbles turned to stringy hair now, hoping by tomorrow night or sat everything goes back to normal,
all parameters are perfect phosphates are zero, my powerhead broke koralia 4 the shaft snapped, i had only 1 running, and thats when the outbreak started ,adding fish didnt help either.

Are you sure your nitrates are 0? Red cyano grows becasue of high nitrates, and green cyano grows with high phosphates. I would take a better look at your nitrates. If its only on your substrait then you might have a small nitrate problem that is leaching nitrates out of your substrait. If its on your rock as well, you have a a more widespread tank problem.

zero nitrates i have been testing every week for over a year, i just started adding some fish and feeding everyday and my nits still at zero, i did lose a powerhead for a few weeks, so far its 99% gone, today is day 3 i turned on the lights and everythings gone, day 2 yesturday i used a turkey baster and blew off alot of hairy stuff off my rocks and corals it all got caught in my filter sock, i put in a fresh new sock a couple hours later. i check my parameters on sundays ,hopefuly nothing went outta wack. So im guessing lights out was a good treatment i'll keep you guys posted if it comes back.

p.s yea it was coming out of my substrates like crazy, i made a mistake of blowing it off and it started growing on my rocks and corals i kept blowing it off and stil came back, it started as a thick film on my sand i guess next time i'll go lights off for 2 -3 days, hopefully it doesnt come back, all my corals seem to be doing fine, only my toadstool is closed but it looks like its taking time to open.
