Ok, I will be setting up a 90 gallon tank and transferring my current rock to that tank my question is what do I do with all that sand??Some people have said do not reuse the old live sand just get new sand and seed the tank witah few cup of my old sand..Any suggestions or opinions??thanks Sal

Is yours the sand that is about 5 years old? If so, just save a little to seed the new sand and toss the rest of it. It has more than likely absorbed a lot of nasties over the years.
No point in tainting a new tank with it.

yes it is over 5 years old and how many pounds of new sand should I get ??And should I get regular white aquarium sand you know the dry stuff in th bags??Thanks very much ,Sal

i re-used my sand in tank switch over, ran a filter in the water for 12 hr's before switching the rest of the stuff over, you can buy dry sand and seed it wit ha few cups of your old sand still gonna have a small cycle reguardless

I would leave some for seeding and give the rest a good cleaning and reuse.
Less impact on the environment. JMO
