Of course, the back of the stand is ugly. There is no actual wall, just 4 pcs of pine, 4" wide, spaced across the back. Like slats. If I mess with those, the tank will fall down.
I do have a 20L by the way, the leopard gecko is in it. I have another one in my basement that I don't trust to hold water, I could swap. I just need a better stand.
But, the thing is, I kind of like seeing the fuge, just wish I had somewhere to put it. If I tried to put the 20L on the shelf, the wall will probably fall down.
Maybe I should just sell the 55, and get something in similar capacity, but more cube or bow shaped. Would make for a deeper stand.

I Suggest a used 75G, shouldnt be to $$$ bad, its like the 55 but 6 inches wider but you keep it 4ft long, since youve got tangs and your hood can stay that way. A metal stand should be pretty cheap to find as well.

If you really want to have a refugium, how about keeping the 55 and putting it next to the 75 and turning it into a viewable fuge, maybe even finding a way to prop the skimmer up via PVC and having it in the 55 too.

It sounds alot more complicated than it would really be

LOL! You saw that room! How can I put a 75g next to the 55g? Besides the fact my wife will kill me!

Here's an idea.... Flush the freshwater fish (except the Frontosa) and use the 29g where it is!

Your gonna puke when you see the crap these needlewheel skimmer can pull out! Mark my words it will blow your present skimmers together AWAY!!!

Yeah, I saw that, but he only mentioned livestock.
Besides, now it's getting expensive. I just wanted a small fuge for some macro, pods, micro brittle stars & maybe a shrimp. Something I could see, never intended to turn the 55 into a reef. wrong shape, hard to light. This thread has turned into changing my apartment into Sea World! LOL!

I just wanted to know if that idea would work. Something to practice with. Pods to feed the pipefish & Mandarin. Remember, I'm a realtive newbie! By the way, as soon as the 55w 50/50's come, I'm removing that hood. I'll put the light strips on.

I have 29 gal AGA as a fuge about 4" above my main tank, but to tell you the true I can't really see very well into it since the glass is cover with algae and millions of tiny pods. in retrospect I think I would have just use one of those plastic salt bucket as a fuge they're not pretty but will definitly fit inside your cabinet.
