Have you considered putting the fish back in the ocean since it's a local species anyway and save yourself the trouble of having to keep the tank chilled year round?
..and even more so since it doesn't seem to want to eat

I tend to agree with PDubs that they should not be returned to our local waters.
The critters in our reef tanks are not from around here, they are from much warmer waters and there may well be things that our (reef) inhabitants have in their system that could be harmful to our local waters. We have NO way to know if the hermits you brought home now have anything inside of them that could be problematic to our local waters/inhabitants.

????? should not, should, make up your mind

I also dive and collect fish!
Around this time of the year you can find a lot
of young tropical's that have drifted up the gulf stream,
and found their way in our northern waters.
You'd be surprised at what you can find around the base of rocks
in the Rock a ways.
I've collected 3 kinds of butterflies, 2 types of angles,
triggers (gray and queen), groupers, puffers, seahorses,
well you get the idea!
There are a few clubs out there that sponsor collection trips,
if your so inclined to look for them.
I find that good diving skills with a little extra weight,
plus the use of a decent slup gun to be very rewarding!

I have seen websites saying porcupines are in the sound. I wonder if PaulB has seen any? I never did.

om, in the 40 or so years I have been diving here I never saw a porcupine puffer in the Sound. I am usually in the western Sound but I would imagine they would be out east.
Years ago the most abundant fish in the Sound was blowfish (or northern puffers) They were considered trash fish. I would collect dozens of tiny ones for my tank. I haven't seen one of them since the seventees.

the meat looks real nice!

if that rigger doesn't work out, it looks like it would be a nice meal
and you wont piss any one off by releasing it back into the wild :tongue1:

I Love Seafood But Don't Want To Eat Trigger, Fish Looks Like It Has Not Much Meat On Him
LOL on a serious note
my aunt and uncle live in southern Florida
he catches trigger all the time and he eats them even though they are a PITA to clean he says they taste great. he says he doesnt miss his bluefish since he moved down there. trigger fish are less greasey
