You cant go wrong with Atlantis, last time i went to Brooklyn aquarium i was disappointed.

For the family, Mystic is also really great because you also have the historic seaport and some outlets around. Its not that far either but depending on when you go traffic can be a killer.

norwalk is great for the little ones but lack on the reef side - there is one tank by the turtle tank that is decent (150g) but the rest is standard public aquarium fair.

If you go to the aquarium in Mystic when the fam is not looking you can run out and use the restroom

Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead, LI,last exit off LIE. 20000 Gallon reef tank is fantastic.

not to mention atlantis is downtown riverhead so there are alot of little shops so if your wife wants she can go shopping also

The National Aquarium in Baltimore is really nice but go on an off day as it gets VERY crowded. The whole renovated Harbor area is worth a day trip.
