Hey gang,

Perhaps someone could help me. I'm having trouble w/ algae, some GHA but mostly long stringy brownish threads, It even stuck to the BB and suffocated the Corraline on it and bleached it white..ID?. (mixed blessing maybe)Anyway I have 2600GPH of flow in a 36G BF, yet still have some spots where crap collects. I even redid the aquascape for a more open and less bottom touching layout. The tank is 7mths old, and i do 40% WC every week or 2 weeks as I see necessary. Tropic Marin.

I completely redid my sumpfugium, put all my rock on eggcrate and chucked all Macro except chaeto. Wiped down the sides and left it sparkling, got a DIY ER skimmer that pulls sh!te constantly. I skim wet.
I run carbon, have a micro sock(women's knee high, great trick from a fellow female reefer) on my overflow. I feed light which I feel bad for.

Most of my SPS are coloring up wonderously, and are interrupted by the tickling of those brown strings. I'm going to get some trochus for collecting the nuisance algae but those crap pockets in my tank are worrying me.

Any advice for this weary reefer?

oh and btw, im not sure if i can say its down to the T but I used to have a coil denitrator online. After it mysteriously loosened the input it sucked up air and voila, i killed my CD. I took it offline 1 1/2 mths back. No algae then.

I empathize with you. We're battling nasty green hair algae, and I don't even have any fish in my main tank (so over-feeding ain't the issue). Two weeks ago, I cut my light cycle in half, and that has minimized the problem. The algae hasn't completely gone away, but it is definitely on the wane.

Good luck,

Kris,

It might be, it seems like it fits, but im suspicious its dinoflagellates and that would suck. Ive been curious to try Chemi-clean, I've seen it clean up house for some types of algae, just don't want it to be a band aid.

I wish you luck on your algae crusade. It does suck, especially when you test and everything is really low.

Anyone else?...Come onnn..help me out you jive turkeys!.
