I went to petland told them i had a reef tank and asked them what was safe. obviously he gave me the wrong stuff and wrecked everything the name of the product is coppersafe. i know i shouldnt have listened to him but he acted like he knew it all and now my tank is wrecked. can anyone help me with this??

well you basically destroyed having a reef tank. the copper is in the rock and sand now. and not to be a downer but you can have a fowler now. never ever put any medications into a reef tank. ask people here not some store.

Sorry for your loss.

There are numerous threads here RE: Ich treatment. 99% of them suggest to never ever ever ever medicate your display but Quarantine any and all fish from the tank and treat in a QT. Leave the display tank fishless for about 6 to 8 weeks to let the ich die without hosts and then re introduce the fish back to the display.

Right now you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. You may only be able to have a FOWLR tank now because any copper has been absorbed by the rock and the substrate and may leach out over time killing any inverts you put in.

There is no invert safe ich treatment.

this is a great article on "reef safe" medications. I don't know if you can make such a strong statement Chief.

Sorry about the bad advice you got about medicating your aquarium. It will take a long time to remove the copper with constant carbon running in your system. I'd give it a year before adding any inverts. Even if your test kit is saying 0 you could still have copper in your aquarium because it bonds to things. I'm sorry there's no good news but you should start over(I know it totally sucks)

uhh...you got a recipe for disaster. if the apple dies your going to foul up your tank big time. Ive seen how nasty they get. watch out.
