Hi all,

I always read and read again when it comes to making decisions about my tank's livestock, making sure that all inhabitants are reef-safe and compatible.

I recently put a Fire Shrimp in my tank. He seems perfectly healthy, eats from my hand, but will not move off the top of the powerhead. This has been going on for about 2 weeks.

I notice my sixline darting around the tank aggressively, even going to the top of the tank and splashing a little water. Never seen him do this before.

I'm thinking I've upset the balance in there with this new addition. I should mention the wrasse is only slightly larger than the shrimp.

Anyone experience this behavior? I'm thinking I need to get one of these out of the tank.

Thoughts?

The behavior of the wrasse and the fire shrimp may have nothing to do with each other. Fire shrimp are known to stake out a territory defined by a spot where they will perch for most of the day (even more so than cleaner shrimp in my experience). My pair have staked out a spot under a rock overhang at the back of the tank and not moved from there in all the time they've lived on my mini reef. Could be that your shrimp thinks the top of the powerhead is prime real estate.

Like cyber said, they're known to pick a place and stay there, your lucky its a spot you can admire it

Thank you both - this is what I was trying to figure out. Is he just perching up there because he's scared or is it his choice to be there?

The place where he's hanging out (on top of a hydor koralia in the front of the tank) is prime - snails come by, he cleans them, he doesn't seem stressed. I hand-feed him a few flakes everynight, he's like a puppy waiting for me to feed him.

I'll give it a little more time. I think the wrasse is going to have to go anyway, he's really getting to be a bully in there.
