1. Do you guys use it with a reef tank?
2. Does it really make a difference?
3. Do you just wash it off when it's dirty or do you need to replace it?if so, how often would it need to be repalced?

Enough questions for now :)

I use a 100 micron sock in my reef tank, keeps the water clearer then without one.
Does it trap pods? Yes it does but not enough to not use it.

I don't change them until they are clogged to about 2" from the top. Depending on your flow rate, a sock can last 3 days or 2 weeks. My socks get changed about 8 to 10 days.
I wash them in a washing machine with hot water and bleach and double rinse then let air dry for 24 hours to dissapate any residual bleach. (a little bleach smell left in the sock will not kill your tank, it's a good oxidizer :) )

They get replaced after they are either unraveled at the seam or when the plastic ring breaks from x-amount of washings.

I use a sock and notice when in addition to carbon makes a huge difference in water clarity. However, I dont wash, I change once every 3-4 weeks.
