Hi Everyone!
I have a 150 with 30 gallon sump. I have about 8 med size fish with mostly soft coral and a cpl of frogspawn. I'm wanting to get a new skimmer. What I'm looking for is a hang on back or one that will fit in my sump. I only have 20 inches below my tank so I think I'm going to have to go with a hang on back. I'm looking to spend between 200 and 250. I'm not interested in a coralife since the one I have only lasted 2 yrs.
Thanks for any input
Patrick

I'd go with an in sump model as there isn't much in the "hang on " variety that can handle the volume of water that you use. I'd also look to see if you can get one used as that will help your dollar stretch a bit farther.

You mention that you only have 20" between the bottom of your sump and the top of your tank?

Partobe,

With 20" to work with the only skimmer you'll be able to get in there is an AquaC. Regardless of what people "believe" to be better skimmers, your space limits your skimmer brand.

Before you purchase, review the differences between skimmer types (venturi, spray injected, needlewheel, recirc), their subtleties along with initial cost and costs to maintain (replacing needlewheels etc) before finalizing your decision.

You should decide on what you feel is best for your system and in this case best is largely driven by space limitations. Good luck with your decisions.
