Who’s Using Solar Power To Run Their Aquariums? Paying $.30/kWh in lower NY.

Price of electricity in lower New York has just gone up to $.30/kHw. Cost of running my aquarium keeps rising. Thinking about getting solar panels to lower my electricity costs but realize there is a large upfront outlay.

Wondering which Reefers have decided to get solar panels to provide electricity for their homes and how’s it working out for them?

Solar was the best thing we have done. Before solar, our bill was getting to almost $600. Now if we had a sunny month, it was sometimes as long as $10. Months of high use, it can go up to almost $300 but usually around $100. Good luck

I priced it out and even south facing the number of panels wouldn’t cover 100% of our usage so ROI was going to be 8-9 years so figured I would wait until panels get better. Was going to cost around $40k to install and own not lease.

Only $10k? Did you install the panels yourself?

I think I would need to install 20 panels at $1200/panel. That’s $20k without installation costs.
