Are Group Buys Old School?

Was just looking through the group order/buy section because I've been looking at something on LiveAquaria that was interesting.... but I have no idea how you would even spend $169 on a single order with their limited selection (it sure has gone down in quality) unless you bought enough for a full huge tank or some of their more overpriced fish... and I definitely am not soending $40 on shipping and handling on something that costs like $120 either. It got me thinking about how this is the reason people used to do group orders all the time, but it looks like nobody does it anymore and the most recent live order group buy was a **** show. Plus, almost seemingly nobody does cash DOA refunds (credit only) anymore so thats another barrier for entry, since a large group buy would probably have a DOA. In addition, Liveaquaria hardly gives out coupons anymore either...

I was just curious on some more veteran reefer's experience on group buys/orders than anything since its sort of obvious why people don't really do them anymore... maybe its something people could be nostalgic about... like the $99 or so free shipping minimum.

It's not old school, just not allowed here without approval, I was trying to get a couple of people together for bulk clean up crew orders, post was deleted. What you can do is find people who are interested, then contact them privately, so any no shows or other disgruntled persons, do not negatively impact this forum.

Ah, so did you actually end up having a group order in private after the fact though?

no, I just may a massively big order for clean up crews myself. The major problem I had was that people have to pick up their fish the day it arrives. If they don't show up, that fish has to go somewhere. I've been trying to put together a fish order myself, but it seems difficult to get an order in for limited supply. They have 1, but the other is out of stock. When the other is in, then the first is out of stock. You know what I mean?
