I read on another website that ZeoSpur (part of the ZeoVit product line) seems to reduce their numbers. Worth a shot.

Thanks for the suggestion. I also read that somewhere, but unfortunately...

Various suggested ways of dealing with them (...dosing with Zeospur2) didn't work.

The Zeospur did seem to have an effect, but short-lived. They'd look a bit scrunched up for a day, but then would rebound and look fine very quickly. With the recommended dosing being every 7-10 days, they had plenty of time not only to recover, but also to carry on spreading. Meanwhile, my coral was showing rather longer-lasting side effects, looking paler and in some cases actually not recovering from the effects. I couldn't recommend Zeospur on the basis of my experience.

Mind you, I wasn't dosing it as part of a Zeo dosing regime. Maybe it works better if it's part of that sort of programme.

Well, with the help of a good fish keeping friend, today was the day I finally removed the sand bed (where would we be without generous friends willing to lend us time and expertise and give us decent size chunks of live rock?). Having spent some time last night building three different piles of rock, I was able to put in the new aquascape straight after.

The fish (new and old) are in now, and the coral's back in as well. But I didn't get shots of that tonight. Will try to tomorrow. Here's the scape anyway.

Well, here now is the tank with all the coral and fish back in, plus 4 new fish - one Fathead Anthias, one Green Chromis, one Royal Gramma and one little ORA Yellow Assessor.

Here's the Royal Gramma.

The Yellow Assessor seems to have a kink in his tail. Does anyone know whether this is the sort of thing that will heal?

Here's the Fathead Anthias.

And the Green Chomis. Common as anything, I know, but I love the coloration.

Now, a plea for some help with a few IDs. These all came in on a rock I paid $2 for, but they're all tiny, so I don't know how well they'll do. Apologies if some of the photos aren't pin sharp - all are about half the size of an American quarter.

This looks to me like a baby Fungia.

[rimg]http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab238/TheEscapedApe/Long%20awaited/IMG_0934.jpg[/rimg]

Is this maybe a Pavona?

[rimg]http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab238/TheEscapedApe/Long%20awaited/IMG_0949.jpg[/rimg]

I thought this was a chalice to begin with, but is it another Fungia of some sort?

[rimg]http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab238/TheEscapedApe/Long%20awaited/IMG_0947.jpg[/rimg]

Another Pavona? From a distance it just looks brown with neon green pin pricks, but this a close up.

[rimg]http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab238/TheEscapedApe/Long%20awaited/IMG_0950.jpg[/rimg]

This one's weird. Mostly white, but with a red background. Hard to get a clear shot of. I thought maybe a chalice, but it's quite thin as well.

[rimg]http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab238/TheEscapedApe/Long%20awaited/IMG_0954.jpg[/rimg]

Finally, a bad shot of something green. Need to get a direct shot, but it's in a bad position to do so!

Thanks Andy! I still need to decide on permanent homes for the coral and fix a couple of rocks in place that are currently balanced (most are fixed with acrylic rods and putty/super glue), but I'm very happy with the way it's turned out. As, importantly, is my wife. :D

I'm actually thinking the same thing. Maybe a couple sitting on top.

Can't tell what the second two are, need clearer shots. I think your Pavona IDs are correct, leaving open the door for Leptoseris as well. The second Fungia-esque one might be Diaseris.

Hey Matt - thanks for the input, very helpful. I need to find another way to generate traffic to this thread though - that thread in the Sump is a little shrill.

Why you crying for so much attention in the dungeon Tom? Tank looks fine!

A couple comments though
1) Some sort of background (black works nice) on the outside of the tank can make those wires just about disappear.
2) Keep an eye on that chromis, they do get quite large, and they can be quite the bully when they're large especially against smaller fish.

Hey Mike, thanks for popping in! The thread title was just a riff on the Sump cliches more than anything else. I just like to get people's advice before doing stuff with the tank.

Thanks for the suggestions as well. I don't really like tank backgrounds for some reason. Not sure why. Maybe it's just laziness, but also a dose of feeling that a tank with a black background, although it does show off colors etc better, kind of makes the tank feel less light in the room. Not sure if that makes much sense. I might try it next time to see if I'm just being ornery.

Thanks for the advice on the Chromis too. I'll keep an eye on it. Right now, I've got a bit more concern about the Dwarf Angel (African Flameback), as it keeps charging at other fish. Not constantly, and it's not focussing on one fish over others, or actually biting/attacking. But I'm going to have to make sure it doesn't escalate. They're all doing a good job of not really being bothered by it, but if it gets worse, I'm not looking forward to the job of removing a Dwarf Angel from the tank...

Hey Dan.

The trick of putting tape over the silencer air intake seems to have done the job. I'm slowly adding more holes as the foam gets lower. I hope to get the tape off this weekend if I'm lucky.
