I think I bought this coral 5 years ago, and it was the second I had ever bought after trying some mushrooms. Now it has covered half of my tank and doesn't show signs of stopping. It's growing and stinging away any other coral in it's way (even mushrooms)...

While I'm pleased that I'm able to make a coral happy like that, I kinda don't want a tank with just green star (a display tank at my LFS ended up that way). I've tried scraping it back before. That's a pain to do, and it grows back in a couple weeks anyway. Is there any other way to control it?

Short of a small nuclear bomb, I don't know any way to get rid of the stuff short of replacing the rock. Hopefully someone will post up with an idea.

You can remove the corals you want from the rock then take the rock out and let it die then re cure it. You wouldn't have to do all the rock at once - just keep the GSP off the cleaned rock, Scrape the glass. I would try and save some for trade with the LFS if they would have it.

You could also get a Clown Trigger.

I'm sure my local fish store would like it. The stuff they have now is more of a grey/brown base and mine is deep purple.

I guess I'll see what happens...

Maybe you could work out a trade with them - your GSP covered live rock for some of their non GSP covered rock.
