It is pretty interesting to see how needle wheels are not energy hogs, but also do not pull the same crap as a comparable down draft. Maybe my next skimmer will be a precision marine or an AquaC.

Trying to read through it, it reads like a fricking thesis report though! :D

It finds that there appears to not be very major differences in TOC removal. But different skimmers could effect the tank differently beyond TOC, so I wouldn't rule out a nicer skimmer. What I mean by nicer is one that pulls more air (I do not believe cone shapes, diffuser plates, etc. make a lick of difference). Becketts pull incredible amounts of air, as do the newer needle wheels. AquaC does not and I wouldn't consider them.

Yeah, it's technical reading. But at least he's thorough and scientific :P
