Is there a way without using a quarentine tank to kill any parasites on a new tang before placing it in the display tank? Can I dip it in something? Also, am I going to need selcone to dip the vegetable matter? Thanks for any help.

Realistically you are going to have a very hard time killing any parasites with out some sort of quarentine period. You might be able to get away with a very aggressive treatment over a shorter period of time, only if the tang is very healthy and not too stressed out. However, I foresee at least a week minimum for almost any treatment.

Personally... I refuse to setup a QT tank and do 6 week treatments on Tangs. If you want to get rid of ICH that's what you are looking at. 6 weeks. And IF you take care of that then buy a piece of coral from LFS and throw it in who knows what's on it? You could reintroduce ich all over again. It is possible to get other nasties too. When I do get a piece of coral from a LFS I usually do it sparringly and I only get it from places that are high-end and very clean.

Otherwise, you either have to quarantine it yourself or buy from somewhere that does QT itself. No LFS is gonna do that. Places like LiveAquaria do. That's where I get all my Tangs... and for the 1st time I've never had problems with Tangs in 5 years. Still not a 100% guarantee of course,, but what is. But from my experience over the years I've not had a problem yet with parasites from the LFS I bought fish & corals from... i did have lots of problems with Tangs & ICH until I bought them from LiveAquaria (read online their QT process)... I also buy corals from LAq.... or anybody that has a good QT process. Otherwise you will have to take your chances with LFS and DON'T buy Tangs. I've never had a problem with a lot of other fish except for a rare ICH with a royal gramma or something.

If you do have a ICH problem the best you can do w/o QT is just keep your Tangs well fed with garlic or foods with garlic.
