Sounds awesome! Is that 120 gal? Should be fun to scape, just be sure not to scrape that sucker. I was thinking of acylic myself but got scared of scratching it.

Wow I really started a trend with the whole external overflow business! :D

(yes I realize I didn't start it... I just like to believe I did :D)

I just got an acrylic 180, 48Lx36Wx24T and put an external overflow on it, and man that size is amazing, my old tank was 72" long but this one seems so much larger due to the width, my fish even look smaller in it.

I have a 4x2x2 with external overflow as well :) I have yet to build the stand, but the rock has been curing for a year and a half

Congrats! We are picking up a 230 gallon (84"L X2 6"w X 24"d) aquarium with a 75 gallon sump tomorrow. I am not sure if my back is going to handle that much heavy lifting.

haha well hopefully you'll have some help to lift the thing.

you'd think I'd know this by now, but ... how do you clean coraline off the acrylic? CC?

hopefully that tank is acrylic because otherwise... OUCH :D

As to the coraline bit... ummm an "acrylic safe" scraper will do the trick and you'll more than likely have one arm that is way more muscular than the other within a few months (yeah it really is that hard). Another way I've heard but not experienced, is via some a good magnet with an acrylic pad on it, and by good unfortunately they're the $100 magnets or so...

Of course the best way is to simply not let it get too out of control, if you see dots, get in there with your scraper and go to work, if you let the little dots turn to spots or splotches it's going to be a whole lot more difficult.

The tank is glass. It is loaded and my wife is driving it home now. We have 4 helpers coming. THe worst part of the move today was when I pulled into the Lowes closest to my house I reached into my pocket to pay for the plumbing supplies and discovered that I had the keys to the rental truck that was parked in the driveway in Gainesville. She had to find a locksmith to cut a new key and lost an hour of time. The help should arrive soon so we will have to entertain ourselves untill she gets here.

Congrats, that is the only dance I know how to do, and may get to do it again soon. I think the wife is ready for a bigger tank, or at least ready to give in to my relentless begging. Thinking either a 4x4x2 for a 6x2x2 pennesula

Rob, if those are you two choices go 4x4, having had "long" yet "thin" tanks, and enjoying my "short and stubby" (4x3x2) tank I can honestly say there is no way I'm going long and slender. Hell even the fish seem to enjoy the tank more, more square feet for rockscaping (caves) and of course more corals :D

Although I think 4 feet might make it hard to work in the center of the tank, but shouldn't be a problem if you get that setup before water goes in.

That was the way I was leaning too. I do love the depth of looking into a 6' from the side, but think I can achive the same effect with the cube and have greater room for the aqua scaping as you note. Not to take away from the happy tank dance already in progress though.
Dance on

SnowManSnow : When are you expecting the new tank? Is there another tank in the spot your are placing it or will you be able to take your time getting everything plumbed without moving another tank out of the way?

I finished the plumbing this afternoon and we got the fish and live rock in the tank. It is circulating with a bunch of maxijets since I still need to make up around 100 gallons of salt water to fill the rest of the tank and sump before turning on the main pumps and hook up the Mh lights, but my wife is thinking about down sizing from the 400 watt lights to 250's so I may now hook them up just yet. The Regal tang did not survive the move, but the other fish seem to be doing OK.

It is basically an upgrade. I have it on order to be mAade with the understanding that I will pick it up the 2nd week in January, so I have about 8 weeks or so.

I'll simply be moving stuff from one tank to this one. The old tank will be up and running until everything is inside the new one. It's in another spot.. not exactly where the old tank is.

The only issue is that I'm going to use the same sump haha...but I think I can get around that for a few weeks while I get everythign going

We finally got the tank full enough to reach the overflows. Only 50 or so gallons left to go!
