I agree Unarce. I mounted mine in the back of the tank to avoid the unsightly motor on the outside. Plus, my tank back is black so it slmost looks like any other bulkhead. Still manages to create plenty of water motion in a 48" wide tank.
Well, I got my Vortech MP40 Gen2, removed it from the box, put it on the tank as per the directions........and complete failure, right out of the box. Straight to overheat mode, yet it never ran long enough to generate any heat.
After calling Ecotech I am told that it must go back. They are sending a replacement and the broken one goes back.
Disappointed...yes. Happy with the customer service....yes.
Ive had my vortech since they came out. Never had any issues, so am suprised to hear of people having issues. I upgraded to the wireless driver. Last week i did the magnet upgrade. Nice deal 9.95 for the upgrade kit. FWIW with the new magnet kit, it seems a bit quiter then before too.
I have an 8' x 27" wide by 30" tall tank. I was running a pair of closed loops with a pair of Iwasaki 40 pumps each connected to 1" SeaSwirls positioned along the front at 1/3 points. But the Iwasaki's started to act up and make a lot of noise, so I pulled the plug on them awhile ago. It's a real pain to pull these pumps for maintenance, so I thinking about just scrapping them and using 1 or 2 Vortechs placed on the ends of the tank. I might start with 1 and see how it goes.
I got my new Vortech today. It is working correctly and is even producing waves in my 6' long 125 gallon tank. So far so good. I cannot wait to get another one to add to the wave motion. Thanks to Steve and TIm at Ecotech Marine.
