Hey people,

I’m looking into both of these skimmers.
What are the pros/cons... personal experience and what not.

If I decide I want a one of these skimmers (or one similar) I will put in a 20g sump under my 29g tank (just under 50g :P ).

Thanks for any info you guys give me :D .

I think an RS 80 would be more than adequate for that size tank. It's the exact skimmer I have on my 30 gallon cube. They are very good skimmers for their size if they are working properly.

Having said that I am unhappy with ER's new method for valving the output of the skimmer. They used to employ a vertically adjustable standpipe (gravity controls the water height), and now they use a weird valve of sorts (a flow restriction controls the water height). It means more adjusting and it is delicate to adjust. They should have stuck with what worked in the past.

What’s the deal with the EuroReef RS line lately… they seem to be on backorder anywhere I can find them for sale. I’m hoping it’s nothing more than a temporary hiccup in the supply chain as they seem like they’re quality units and I was eyeing up a RS100 myself.

I have a RS250 and used a RS80 on a smaller tank. I do not have the valve in the discharge I use a secvice coupling to allow me to adjust the water height. I thin kthe skimmers are great. An RS80 would be way more than you need.

I am using an RS80 on a 72G tank. I agree with Matt about having to adjust it too much with the current outlet system. However, the problem was rectified after I purchased an auto topoff system. The unit is otherwise excellent and produces a thick high quality skimate regularly. I opted not to get the RS100 because the pump included is the exact same one provided with the RS80. The only difference appears to be that the RS100 is a little wider but the RS80 is a little taller. Go figure. The final nail in the coffin for the RS100 was the owner of my LFS stating he had tested both units and found the RS80 to have a slightly higher airflow. He no longer sells the RS100. The bottom line, I don't think the RS100 is enough of an advantage over the RS80 to justify the higher price, especially for your relatively small tank. If you have cash to burn, the recirculating model is inherently more efficient.

I have an RS80 under my 75 gallons tank and love it - key trick is to maintain about 8 inches of water in the sump
