Hello,

I have the opportunity to get a 125 Gallon Oceanic tank for a great deal. Before I commit to buying it, I just wanted some input in the Ocean brand of tanks.

It's a 125 RR Oceanic tank, single overflow. Also what's RR stand for?

Thanks in advance!!!

RR=Reef Ready=overflow(s).

Oceanic is the next step up from AGA=All Glass Aquarium.

AGA makes a quality tank as well.

Yeah I pretty much heard the same thing... of the major manufacturers, Oceanic is about the best, AGA is very good, and Perfecto is good. That said, I have a 75g Perfecto that has a manufacture date of 1998 and it's still goin strong.

Snatch that puppy up :)

I have a plain (not RR) cube with stand. I love it. The only drawback is that Oceanic does not make enclosed canopies that match the stand. You'll need to go with a pendant and tank cover or DIY your own.

Just saw a Perfecto RR with starfire glass today...quite impressive.

For a comparable tank look at Deep Sea Aquatics. Not sure if they are just local to Texas still but it is composed of many former Oceanic folks who make some really nice tanks.

thats good to know as someone swooped up on the oceanic tank, and I didn't get it. I'm really bummed because it was a good deal and I didn't capitalize on it. I hope I'm destined for an awesome triple-digit tank some day. :(

damn, sorry you missed that gem :cry:

just keep looking on Craigslist, because I routinely find 1xx+ gallon tanks for dirt cheap, albeit, perhaps not all Oceanic tanks w/starphire :wink:

Well with the amount of people jumping ship now a days with the down turn in the economy there are lots of deals to be had. Keep your eye out, Ive never seen so many people getting out.

It would be interesting to see what the actual "statistics" are but I keep hearing about tanks leaking all the time. Even custom ones. It can be a HUGE catastrophe. You should choose wisely here. I've heard things are better in the same order as everybody else is saying here. I would NOT buy a used tank, a filled and unfilled tank, a moved tank.

I think what we're seeing here with this list of vendors in that order is the same thing with cars. Say for example... Dodge, Ford, Chevy, Honda, Toyota. For some people they will have no problems. The question is what are the odds you will. And Dodge will just have a higher # of problems than a Toyota car. Might be the difference between 30% problems and 10%. It's all about #'s. OCEANIC is the best I think too.

I have a 72G RR Bowfront Oceanic. I don't think I'll ever buy another brand. Obviously, I'm very happy with it. I didn't know they did starfire glass though. Lastly, I'm pretty sure they make matching stands and canopies for every tank they sell. Howerver, they can be pricey even for the particle board (or is it MDF?) deals. For my tank, the matching oak canopy and stand were going to cost me $1400, and that was considered a deal. I decided to have a custom stand built instead though that voids the tank warranty.

If the tank is a regular size/shape, they can usually be used with the AGA stands and canopies.
