People often don't seem to understand how small hatchling S. bandensis really are, so here is an illustrative pic:

I thought that was on the other side of the dime.

Trido - dime.
SHW - at that size they get small mysids, small amphipods and tigger-pods.

I think it's almost poetic given that cephalopod eyes and human eyes are one of the best illustrations of convergent evolution out there...

Are the eggs laid and tended by the parents? or do you remove them?

The eggs appear to be tended by the parents sometimes in captivity. They seem to develop just fine if removed as well.

Chuck,

That seems to be Mike Irvings site, but he seems to have dropped off the map, and some of the info is out of date. Check my site or TONMO for newer info. :D

I have been breeding these guys for 4 or 5 years, trying to get a stable population of captive bred animals. The babies, captive raised or captive bred go back into that effort or are sold.

Thales - what do you do with the babies? (if you don't sell them to hobbyists)?

Fries them up with a little marinara sauce. ;)

Better actually (more tender and "creamier" tasting) but that's a whole other topic :)
