Are there any reason you cant bleach out and use an old reptile tank for a marine aquarium? I tried to search but came up with a bunch of Iguana stuff.

Thanks

Almost every reptile tank I encountered have a cracked bottom, or have very thin glass, or have very odd size. Besides the physical aspect, there is nothing biologically wrong with them for reef. I won't bother with bleach, just wash it really well, and let it sit under the sun for a day or two to dry up.

Thanks!! been a member for a few years and have a nice 75 up and running, but as you all know too well.. seems a bit small and cramped now.. ;) time for more. This is an all glass 125. The guy just kept an iguana in it. I looked at it and it looks like it just came from the pet shop. Very very clean.

Thanks
Sam

Allright, just got off the phone with the guy, got the tank and stand only for $125.00 funny its only 2.5 miles from my house, and less then 1/4 mile away from where I bought a 55 last year.. funny... ;)

Be sure and check the silicone seals for wear, and I would do a leak test with freshwater for at least 72 hours before I trusted it. The only anecdotal problems I have heard of is the seals being brittle due to heat lights.

I have seen reptile tanks made just with reptiles in mind and their glass was very thin. I wouldn't try it. If it was a tank where it was built with fish in mind and the guy just happened to use it for reptiles then I wouldn't worry.

its an allglass 125 made for fish. Picked it up today, the glass is 3/8 thick. I think it will be fine. I will do the leak check for sure, but honestly, the tank looks brand new and the silicone feels squishy like it should. Thanks again for all the help. I knew I could count on you guys.

Same as for a main tank, all a sump is is a place for processing the water, A rubbermaid container does nicely if your looking to go cheaper route, and better durability than a true reptile tank with the thin glass.

lmao.. Im not plannin any reptile tanks if I can help it.. Thinkin a 40long will fit the bill for a sump/fuge combo with an external pump. Should be plenty of room and have some safety net for power outages.
