Hey i have been trying to get some decent coraline growth in my tank...not working too well. Does anybody have some nice little tips or methods out there? What seems to work for all you people who have it growing well?
Alkalinity has been my answer after getting a starter from another reef. Also I use PowerSweeps(TM) for circulation. I take a flow director from tank that has corraline and put it on a Power Sweep of the new tank.
Assuming there are coralline spores present (if not, seed as needed), just maintain normal Ca/Alk levels, low nutrient levels, decent lighting and it's just a matter of time from there...
The ironic part is that some day you'll wish you could go back to the times when you had slow coralline growth...
Alright ive never checked the alkalinity in my tank before is there a test kit I can buy for that or something?? Im assuming its alright because everything is alive in my tank and has been for a while. Bubble algae growth is good . Thanks for the tips, My calcium is a little high in my tank right now so thats not a problem.....Thanks and any more tips..?...Anyone?...
Just make sure you dont commit the same mistake I did. I kinda read the results incorrectly and kept adding alkalinity into the water thinking it was too low when in actuality it was WAY too high. Water changes from hell. This is what the kit includes.
Alright if its known as carbonate hardness i might actually have some test strips with that test on it. But thanks for the replies I could very well be wrong.
So is it alkalinity the same as KH or carbonate hardness?
