So I am moving into an older house. The foundation that is currently there needs to be fixed up in order to support my 45 gal tank. Unfortunately this is beyond my budget at the time being.

I still want to grow a reef tank, and with my current set up I can easily fit all my corals and fish (single) into a nano cube with plenty of room to grow. Also it will be a lot less painless to move into a smaller tank - there is a lot of physical pluses than minuses getting a nano cube for the next year.

Now I know that nano tanks is a bit more of a challenge but I am up to that.

So I guess what I am looking for here is do you have recommendations to a particular cube? What should I look out for?

Also: there is one with a 150w metal halide system. How much would a 150w metal halide effect my electric bill? I am currently using a 96w compact florescent.

Here is a link to the particular nano cube I was looking at:

marillion,

neat! could you share what the metal halide light did to your electric bill? As I understand they are huge energy consumers.

So I picked up this 24 gal nano cube yesterday - cant wait for it to come in:

I've shopped at dr foster and smith in the past but always thought that a lot of there stuff was a bit pricey for the most part. But I could not turn this nano cube down. It was 24 gal, which is just what I wanted, did not want 29 for risk of the foundation of the house, and I did not want anything smaller like the 14 gallon bio cube.

But the best part is that this tank came with the stand, and looking at various sources that made this cube the best deal around. I was tempted to wait to find a local hobbiest selling their tank but I only have 2 weeks until I move in, so timing is crucial now.

Anyways, I am pretty happy with this purchase, I will be able to keep my live stock and reduce the electric bill about 300%!

If they haven't changed the pump the metal shaft to the propeller will break in about 3 months. From what I have read, nano cube has a pretty bad rap. Mine went to the dumpster after 2 years.

The lights in mine corroded really bad. Heat was a big problem in the summer. I had to keep the lid open.

Hopefully, all the bugs are worked out.

Good luck and enjoy!
