Hi all. I just put some carbon in my reactor and forgot to rinse it out. My water is pretty much black. Will it dissipate or am I gonna have to do some massive water changes? Am I in danger of this crashing my tank?
Well, it might dissipate on its own. I don't think it'll crash your tank unless you have very sensitive filter feeders (not exactly a crash). I would suggest throwing on a HOT or Magnum filter to get out as much suspended dust as possible, instead of waiting. Chances are, though, that it'll end up being filtered out eventually, assuming you've also got some sort of mechanical filtration on there.
Thank you for the advice. I've been running some polishing filters in the sump and doing some water changes. I'm keeping as much of the black dust blown off the live rock and corals as I can with a turkey baseter. The water is clearing up, but it's gonna take a day or two of heavy filtering and a few more water changes to get it back to normal.
I've never done this as I've always rinsed my carbon. I bet I remember next time
