Its been a while since I ve posted in this thread. Alot has happened since May.
Ive upgraded my lighting from DE 250 to SE 400. Now im running reeflux 12Ks over the tank driven by icecap ballasts.
Ive also increased my display tank flow to around 13500 GPH or a 65X turnover. Ive done this with the help of power heads. There are now two MJ mods and three tunze nanos making up over 7000GPH of flow. The rest is done with the CL and a penductor
Ive also recently added a chiller. MY AC unit was working great at keeping the temp in the display and the tank room down but I felt I could save a few pennies on elecricity with a small chiller. We'll see about that.
Ive also upgraded to a GEO 618 calcium reactor.
Ive been working on a friends 300+ gallons system on weekends, off and on all summer so the moneys earned have been spent mostly on my hobby. My wife is so great in that regard.
Also, keep in mind this system has AEFW's. They arent the end of the world, just more work.
Well,...... that would require me to clean the laundry room and mount the chiller plumbing in the tank room.
Since I'm having the PSAS fall frag swap here next weekend I can probably owrk that out for you in the next couple of days.
Its been a while since I've done this and some frineds were asking so..........
Updates:
Ive changed the MH bulbs to Radium 20Ks only after fighting with some Helios since early December. Ive also changed my VHO's from 48" to 72" driven by an icecap 660. Instead of a 430. I took the 430 and upgraded my T-5s from 48" to 60".
Some pics.
Some of the pics are more colorful than others due to my messing with the AWB on the camera. The more colorful ones are a more true interpretation of the corals. Of course pics never do a tank justice.
Well, its been just over a year since adding water to it. I wont bore you with a bunch more pics. Just a few of the important ones along with some of my favorite pics as of late.
Thanks,
things have finallly started taking off since I've eradicated the AEFW's I lived with for over a year. Of course, its alway something, now I have red bug. Again.
As per Len's request, I'll give a staus update.
Since last posting, Ive had a massive briopsis bloom due to too much camping. Ive spent a third of the summer neglecting my tank and my 23 year old has been, apparently, over feeding the tank. Im just finishing up a Tech-M treatment that has proven to be very successful. Before going the chemical route, I tried two lettuce nudi's which slowly keep the briopsis at bay in small areas, and three sea hares which IMO are worthless and should be left in the ocean. They did nothing but walk the sand bed and slowly wither away.
Lately, Ive had a few friends break down their tanks, and I've been given a few medium sized colonies and clams to hang on to for a while. The new corals, accompanied by a month of diligence and the tank being a year and a half old are paying off. Its looking pretty good
Thanks Len.
About two months ago I started running ozone. My SPS are suddenly growing like weeds despite the chemical treatment. A bit of STN at the bases on some of the more finicky deepwater acros but I wouldnt expect anything less from them. Some of my LPS are going to likely need to be target fed now.
