Here's my picture of the frag. This is under Reeflux 12k lighting. It was like this when I bought it, at least from what I remember. Will it color back up to anything close to what is pictured? If not, I'll probably give it away. I plan on getting just a handful or very pretty corals and letting them grow to sizable colonies. Not exactly happy with the way it looks right now.
I'd say you have to give it plenty of time. Things can sometimes take quite a while to color back up. Plus, if it doesn't it might be something about your tank conditions rather than the coral itself. So giving it away wouldn't address the root cause, if there is one.
I agree - it can take many months. I would confirm where other people with strong coloration have placed theirs and try to mimic the illumination/flow/etc. If it hasn't colored up in 6 months, start moving it around the tank and be patient. Many turds have the ability to turn into diamonds. If it has the lineage, it should have the ability. If you don't want it, I'll trade you something for it.
Nice photos. What kind of setup are you taking them with? (apologies if you've already said, I didn't see it discussed)
It's currently 1/3 down from the water level, but I'll try raising it higher and seeing what happens over the next few months.
As for my camera gear, I use a Canon 300D with their 60mm macro and the 430EX flash. I'll try to take a picture of the remaining fish. It's hard to get them to stay still.
Tank is doing pretty well. Frags are growing pretty well and coralline is starting to show up in spots all over the marco rock. I've already purchased a 250w galaxy / radium setup to replace the existing 400w icecap / reeflux 12k lighting config. I've found the 400w setup to be a bit much. Acros near the top of the tank don't seem too happy. I plan on supplementing with T5 actinics a few months down the road.
Coral wise, I've bought a bunch of frags from local reefers and I'm fairly happy with what I've got. There's a few more ORA sps corals I want, but after that I think I'm done and it's just time to enjoy.
Current and "pretty much" final fish stocking list:
Chevron tang
Purple tang
Acanthurus nigricans
Siganus punctatus
Lyretail anthias (9)
Candy hogfish
Peppermint hogfish
Mystery wrasse
Flame hawk
Yeah 17 fish seems a bit much but then again I've been one to be quite conservative about fish in my tank. I have 6 in my 180
I do like the Chevron tang though, both as a juvenile and as an adult they have a wonderful look to them, unfortunately my tang limit has been reached with 1 yellow + 1 tomini.
