Within 1 week of each other, two different LFS in my area had the center brace 'give' on their 125 gal and the aquariums burst apart. One was in Superior, WI and the other in Hermantown, MN - about a 30 min drive apart. That was bizarre!
A 110 gallon High. The center brace broke as he was going out the door for a week in florida, and he was back 2 nights later when his girlfriend called screaming. The back pane broke and was gushing.
My girlfriend's old tank (yes, my girlfriend is a reef geek!) broke because it was not on a level stand. (almost 1/2" low over 3' She was in florida visiting relatives when she got the call from her husband. Her new tank is on a nice level stand.
Both tanks broke for a reason. My old 100 gallon (www.bad-coffee.com/100) I bought off ebay. The tank was about 15 years old when I had it, and I had it for 3. Last I knew it was holding water.
As long as you don't move a tank with water in it, the silicone bonds to the glass should hold for years and years. And let's face it. How many of us can go 20 years without upgrading?
