We want to get a larger tank in the future... what kind of tangs would work in a 135 or a 180? .. we really would like to have a hippo tang... but I know we can't go by the recommendations listed on the retail fish sites....

thanks!

I would think you would be OK with a Hippo tang in a 135 or a 180, also you would probably be able to do a NASO or a Unicorn in a 180.

I have a small vlemengi (don't know how to spell it) in a 125 he has almost doubled in size in 6 months and they say they get really big. I may have to upgrade as well to keep him. Another tang that gets big is an orange shoulder. You just have to watch you don't get tangs with the same body style unless you ad them at the same time and you still may have issues then.
other than the hippo tang what are you looking for?

I'm not really sure yet what would be going into the larger tank... we do have a six line wrasse and a couple of clowns which might make the move... but it will be a while... maybe a copper banded butterfly?... not sure how well they would get along with the hippo and the others...

Thanks! Now I need to go research some tangs.. lol.. I have PLENTY of time!

A Hippo Tang should be fine in either tank (135 or 180). Personally I prefer the 24" front-to-back dimension of the 180s for rockscaping.

If you're planning on more than one tang, I would make a list of what you're interested in and post it. We can make recommendations about which fish are not likely to get along, preferred stocking order, etc...
