I have been a reefer for quite some time and have never seen anything like this algae.

for all intents it seems to be lightly encrusting, by that I mean I can lift its outer edges with a toothpick. It is a pumpkin orange in color to a almost color of seaweed. It also has very very fine whate fuzz growing up from its surface.

Whats weird is this peachfuzz looking stuff only grows on the surface of this orange algae. I did some research on many types of coralline but I cant ID it. It is quaicly beginning to spread and I fear it will cover up my purples and reds. This has only become apparent in the past month. The tank isa14 months old and my parameters are perfect by reef standards.

Any takers on this??? I will try to post a pic or two.[/img]

I have this type of brownish algae in my tank too. The whitish strands aren't as long/fuzzy on mine, but it's definitely the same thing. I've found it's not very hardy and any coral will grow over it in time. In other words, it's not invasive. I was really worried it was going to take over, but I've since found any SPS will overtake it and isn't bothered by it. No idea what species it is though.

My Emerald crabs eat it.
