which wave maker should I buy?

Tunze nanostream (controllable) and Tunze controller OR:
Reefkeeper 1 with (2) Rio hyperflow pumps?

The down side on the Tunze is the price and not being able to control whole tank,

The down side on the reef keeper is the pumps as Tunze are not controllable by the reefkeeper or so they say?

Can you post links to the two products? I cant find the Reefkeeper 1 in a google search and dont want to hunt to get a review.

The Reefkeeper won't allow the variable speed controls that a Tunze + Tunze controller will allow (I'm not familiar with the nanostreams, but I'm guessing they have similar features to the larger streams). If the nanostream is just a simple on/off motor, then you can control this with any controller, including a Reefkeeper I or Neptune Jr. (there would be little point to buy a Tunze controller for simple on/off timing).

The Tunze will also provide a much better flow pattern then the Rio, not to mention I distrust Rios and wouldn't use them if they were the last pump on earth.

Another affordable option is Seios with Seio's controller.

It depends on whether you are looking for a WAVEMAKER or a complete system controller. If you just want a wave maker go with the Tunze controller and streams. They're awesome and consume little power for the output.

If you go for a system controller, I wouldn't waste your money on something that was not Firmware upgradable. I would either get the RKII or the Aqua controller JR with the serial upgrade dongle. Both are the same price - with like add ons. I ended up getting the RKII and am very happy. Got a temp controller and got rid of a bunch of wiring hell.

In regards to nano-streams. There are a few models. You need to be careful about the 6025 and 6045 as they are not speed controllable and Tunze has stated NOT to use them as wave making devices. Others have had theirs break from constant ON/OFF activity. The 6055 nano is controllable. Although, like the other controllable streams price is steep - $250 for controller and $200 for pump.

Oh, one more thing I for got to mention....I would NOT use a RIO pump for anything. The oil slick that ended up in my salt mixing trash can one day blew me away. If you need a lot of flow from a PowerHead look into a maxi jet with a mod kit. 2 of those should provide crazy wave making power. Even if you buy the mod the price is pretty cheap for the flow.

I also read that you can use the maxijet mods on that seio wavemaker/controller.
