Unfortunetly I've discovered fleas that Kevin's brother brought over. I've done the powder, but just don't know if it works. I want to leave the house with my chinchillas for the weekend and just drop a flea bomb. I just thought, however, that it might kill my fish! Any experience?

8O Bad idea! Those pesitcides will kill off everything in your tank very quickly! I understand how hard fleas are to get rid of, but even if you totally seal off your tank with plastic and tape you are still taking an awful chance. Everything in the house, water buckets, etc will be contaminated.

I'd go with powder for now and there are natural products (at least here) that will stop the fleas from reproducing in the carpets, rather than nuking them with pesticides.

Bummer of a problem!

I wouldn't do it myself. In my apartment last winter we also had fleas. I tried powder two times, but due to my little one playing on the floor I almost immediately had to vacuum it up. Both times I was very concerned about the dust in the air from the can of powder. MY wife then did the internet search......... Believe it or not. Table salt did the trick for us. If your willing to do a little work. Go buy about six or eight tubs of it. It will only cost three bucks. Sprinkle it generously throughout the carpeted areas of the house, and vacuum it up 24 hours later. You will need to do this ever day for a couple weeks. Fleas like moisture so they are attracted to bath rugs. Pull them and just use a towel so you pull it every day. On top of that, Fleas are also attracted to light. We also put little bowls of dishsoapy water under night lights in the heavily infested areas. To my surprise the bowl would have about ten fleas drowned fleas every morning at first. Good luck

Right now the game plan is to wash everything, bag up all unnecessary blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc. Powder and vacuum everyday. And we're taking the chins to the vet to get them revolution, which ought to solve the problem because eventually the fleas will be hungry and go to the chins, then get on them and die. *crosses fingers*
