I've been looking at both of these and have pros/cons about each. The biggest being data logging for the Neptune - but then you have to pay $75 extra for the SW. Reefkeeper customer support has been very slow getting back to me about my questions (they haven't responded at all).

For those of you that have one or the other, why did you decided to go that way?

I haven't used the RK II, but I would still get the Neptune. I've heard it is more flexible in its programming, and Neptune has been around a long time and has great CS (Curt is very helpful). I've been using Neptune products for over a decade and they've given me no compelling reason to ever change brand loyalties.

Oh, a complaint I've heard about the RK design is that the probes and connected to the power module, which necessitates either running the power outlets closer to the water or running very long probe leads to the water. But then again, some people like mounting the controller on the outside, free from too many wires sticking out of it.

Len-

Is the software that the netune offers worth $75? Is that the only way to view the data file.

Pricewise, for the items I want - temp control, the 8 block plug, firware upgradeablility and data loggin they are pretty close in price.

$250 for neptune, $270 for RKII

I used to use a very primitive freeware (I forgot who wrote it) and never purchased the neptune software. Others might have more input, but my current AC3 is not hooked up to a computer or the internet. Yes, I know I'm misssing out on a huge feature-set :P

Actually, Aquanotes is offering a free version of the SW. Granted, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it definitely allows you to graph your PH and Temp readings for a 12 or 24 hour period (which is what I want it for) - Aquanotes Lite

I just spoke with Scott from Reefkeepers about the RK II data logging. A computer must be connected (via serial cable) at all times in order to perform the data logging function. They should be releasing the front end app shortly.

I went with the RK2 and I'm very happy with it. It looks a lot better than the AC jr and I dont use it for anything other than a timer and a PH monitor. For me its perfect. JMO.
