The tank is a 120 AGA if you didnt know already. It has been running since the first of last june. 2" sand bed, 120lbs of LR and a good amount of flow. The permanent residents are, Two maroon clowns, two green chromis, one orange spot goby, one yellow tang, and one naso tang. All of the fish get along very well. First I lost a fire fish, I saved it only for it to disappear a month later. Then I had a painted fairy wrasse jump. I have heard of both of these species as being jumpers so I guess I cant complain. Today, my flame hawk jumped overboard and I found him a few minutes to late. He was still wet. Unfortunatly covering this tank IS NOT possible. I need the evap anyway.I feel that my boiload is nearly maxed out and would really like one last fish that is interesting.

I am considering getting rid of the Naso if my LFS will give me a decent credit.
A few possibiliteis I'M looking into are:
A blue jaw trigger
Another wrasse of some sort
Another hawk fish, although I do like my shrimp
A dottyback (petsmart has I nice indigo dottyback that could use rescuing)
A dwarf angel?
I like anthias but my LFS wants about $70 for any kind they get in.
And lastly ,five or six more green chromis, not my first choice

Mostly I want something that isnt suicidal.

hey man i had a similar experiance with a jumping fish just this week.

I bought a firefish for my aquarium and he CONSTANTLY lept into the overflow. This happed for 3 days! and the 4th I just left him in there! I yanked my 2 big tomato clowns out for a tank n my bedroom and put the firefish back in. He hasn't tried to jump since!

My guess is that the jumper (s) is just scared to death of somthing in your tank.

I cover the opening in the back of my tank with egg crate. It allows for evaporation and keeps fish inside. It is easy to cut, so it is very versatile.

I use it as a fence across the back and two sides of my tank and haven't had any jumpers.

If you lay egg crate flat across the top of your tank, it will block a fair amount of light. That is the one down side if that is the only way you can install it.

That is a great idea. I couldnt lay eggcrate or even plexi on its side if I tried. I have way to much plumbing to even consider it.

I think that the green chromis pushed it out. 8O

So I dont get a "If it were my tank" comment from either of you? :D

Sorry to hear about all the jumpers :(

Trading the Naso might be a good idea. They really need more than 120g anyway. The dottyback will be a good addition, as would the chromis.

Removing the Naso would really cut into the bioload, opening up room for a single male and harem of anthias. Since your LFS charges an arm and a leg for them, it would definitely be worth looking into purchasing the group online, maybe scoring some free shipping

I know, Newbie couldnt resist the tang issues. I was asking Thales why he didnt have a single tang in his 150. Of course the guilt immediately set in.

Well, I've been guilty of it many times over the years. I know I can't keep them forever, but it's hard to resist, as tangs are beautiful and hardy.

dont let the small size fool you with the dottyback they can be real aggressive and they love to eat the carpet if you know what i mean

You will hate my answer, but just about every fish on your list has jumped in my previous tanks: All types of wrasses, pseudochromis, jawfish, dwarf angels, hawks, anthias, etc. A big trigger is probably your best bet if you absolutely can't cover the tank.

Besides the open back of the tank (I use window screen material myself because it's to easy to mold around plumbing and what not. Works like a charm and let's me evaporate all I want. :P ) you should also consider a fridmani (Pseudochromis fridmani) or a striped pseudo (Pseudochromis sankeyi). I find them both attractive and they're very, very passive! Cool personalities, too! :D

Others that I would recommend/I like are: two-spot/candy hogfish (Bodianus bimaculatus), longfin bannerfish (Heniochus acuminatus), and any fairy or flasher wrasses (and oh, sixlines too). :)

But any of these are bound to jump, really. :(

The Naso tang looked like it was ready to jump during the snow storm last night. I was going to post earlier that cutting eggcrate is impossible. If you looked at img.0097on pg. 6 of my tank thread you would see that my plumbing is quite busy. The sides and back corners are far worse. The rim of the tank is almost impossible to get to. If anything, I think I can fabricate a fence as louey suggested.
For now, I think I will take the Naso tang in for credit and wait to see if I really need to put another fish in this tank.If I do, it will most likely a trigger, if I feel that theres room. It is, after all, primarily a reef tank. The fish are secondary as Ive had fish tanks for many years.
