Question is, I have a 32 gallon trash can which I use to hold my top-off water now and I'm wondering if I should put a powerhead in there to keep the water moving constantly or if it's not necessary. It does have a lid and all, so it won't have much air in there, I suppose.

Thanks for any input! :)

I say no, you do not need to keep top off water moving. Curious to see if anyone disagrees though.

I just keep mine covered. fI don't think youd need flow, IMO. If its clean it should be good.

I just keep mine in 5 g jugs so that I make sure to use all the water up before pumping new water. I'd be a little leary about keeping it in a big container for long periods of time without 100% turnover.

i would say you do not need flow . . . i have 4 32 gallon trash cans. 2 for RO and 2 for water changes (saltwater). The only thing I would recommend is that you completely empty the container at least once a month, rinse it out, and let it air dry. I've found if you don't do this you'll develop a "funk" on the bottom and sides of the trash can . . . i think its just the dust that settles on top of the water . . . but yeah . . . no flow

I have three (32 gal) Rubbermaid's that my RO/DI water runs into two of them, that in one of them be only for top off water which not require any water movement. For as when I do in one start to make a water change, I do however then have a water movement.

Okay, for a third opinion  I used to aeriate my RO water for 24 hours (either PH or plain old pump and airstone) prior to mixing up salt water, as that does a nice job of raising the pH of the RO water.

I do that as well. But do you keep your top-off-only water "in motion"?

No, as my top off water was usually kalkwasser which I dripped in daily.

I have a 32G brute that I use as a kalk mixing vessel for top of water. I have a PH that runs for a half hour each day.

I cleaned it once, last year.
