King of Prussia. There's a hotel right next to that mall that I proposed to my wife at . Don't know about a fish store right there, but "That Fish Store" is in Lancaster, if I recall it's a couple hours away. For 2 hours it really isn't worth the time, if your travles take you an hour from it, check it out. The place is HUGE. When I was there, several years ago they where finishing up construction on a 500 gal reef. Looked like it would 1 day be quite a site
Yeah The Fish Store is pretty cool. I was there in the summer. I live in Bucks County and am going to KOP. Lancaster would be too far just to go there but always make sure I go to TFS if in Lancaster for other reasons.
its called "That Fish Place; That Pet Place". Its a great place to go for your dry goods and frozen/fresh/live foods. I would personally recommend NOT getting fish there. If you go I think you will immediately see why. They seriously overstock. I've seen several tanks absolutely stuffed with Hippo Tangs and Yellow tangs. They were all beat up and malnurished. If you are interested in corals they do have a very nice nice selection. The corals I have purchased from there have all faired well. They offer frags as well as show specimens. They are, in my opinion, a bit pricey on the live stock but the drygoods prices are hard to match locally.
i'd tell you to check out the "hidden reef" but that is down for the count right now due to a fire in a neighboring building. . . lots of water damage. . .
Was Hidden Reef over by Norristown somewhere about 10-12 years ago?? - There was a pretty good shop out that way back then but I can't remember the name of it (and I'm not even totally sure it was actually Norristown but I know it was closer towards the NW edge of things..)
Edit: I had NE edge the first time 'round, ment NW edge...
Yeah not much good around here. I am from Paoli about 10 minutes from KOP. The hidden reef was one of the best around but as mentioned is down for a while.
The other good ones "around" are East Coast Aquatics, and something fishy (toofishy.com) That pet place is pricey on livegoods and they have a store but I never seem to be able to find what I wanted there. They just finally started carrying salifert test kits.....about time.
All my LFS's are aout an hour drive for me.
The frazer zoo is one of my favorites as Mike the fish guy there really gives you personal attention. He was supposed to get a big shipment in of Bali aquacultured acros stuff in this week. He takes frags for trade also, and since I just dropped off like 10 frags I should get over there. He is only 15 minutes from me but doesnt really carry any dry goods. he is more into livestock and occasionally carrys ORA frags also.
The place I'm thinkin of probably 'aint there anymore, but I think this is where it used to be..
The place LOOKED like someones home. It wasn't, it was wall to wall stock with the main floor freshies and the "basement" - sunken from the main floor - was all marine with a really good selection..
All there was was a small sign to even see that it was there, but it was the only place I was able to find in the area that carried Ice Caps and seemed to do really well with their livestock. (I didn't spend much time in NE Philly is all, so I'm not knockin any other stores, this was just close to me..)
Heres a link to a Google map, just click and push the map up following 202 down and you'll see KOP ain't too far away...
The place was in this stretch somewhere.. - I think it was a yellow building at the time.. - Parking like everywhere in Philly was cramped - and behind the building.
I am very familiar with thehiddenreef.com as I went there all the time prior to the fire. Either way I really dont consider NE Philly that close to KOP but thanks anyway. That place in Norristown-I've been there before when my old job took me to the State Hospital ten years ago and I was thinking about taking a look to see if it was still there. I ended up taking the turnpike instead of Rt 202 though (i am in Bucks County) the day I went to KOP. At KOP i did end up buying some squid- fried calamri that is at Cheesecake Factory inside the mall. I will check out the other links. Im suprised that KOP does not have a really good place though-you would think there would be a good market. I like to visit LFS's just to see if they new stuff. For example, I am considering getting the Finnex 20 g M tank but none of my lfs have them.
