No, due to the large lighting surface. Check out the VHO, it should be similar when it comes to the appearance of the caustics.

We will need a year to form a good opinion of how well these guys work. I have seen DIY LED fixtures before. They reported that it was successful at growing Acropora and coralline.

I am thinking about making one this summer.

It depends on your definition of radiation. To some people, anything with temperature higher than absolute zero will emit radiation.

I suppose you mean UV? How UV affect the color of coral is still in debate. The LED usage will certainly make the discussion more interesting.

That's a serious drawback IMO.
BAH! Overrated.

Besides with multiple point sources you'll probably still see some glitter lines.

The only glitterlines that I've seen that were truely "worth the price of admission" is when the sun shot through the window and left a rainbow of glitter on the rocks.

I love the look. I do not think I could go on without them. I think they really add to the tank.
