I bought two Bangai cardinals 27 days ago. Both looks healthy and start eating first day.But second day one fish stopped eating and had thread-like white excrement . After 2 days died. 12 days ago other (second fish) from the same source also died, but I had also third fish from the other source in my aquarium and that fish also died today.

So, all three cardinals died, with the same simptons
"fish stopped eating and had thread-like white excrement . After 2 days died"

I bought two Bangai cardinals 27 days ago
First one died 24 day ago
I add another cardinals (other source, captive breed)
Second fish died 12 days ago
Third fish (other source, captive breed) died today.

All other fish in aquarium are healthy.

According to this information I suppose that all cardinals had same disease, which attack mainly cardinals. Incubation period have to be around 12 days.

Do you have any idea what is this disease ?

I lost my breeding male banggai and I've purchased over a dozen wild caught banggai cardinals from 2 different LFS over the last year and tried numerous different things to try to keep them alive. I failed and lost my existing female from whatever they brought with them.

I bought 4 ORA tank raised banggais a little over a month ago, and have kept them in a separate system and they seem to be doing very well. It seems that there is something going wrong with the catching or shipping of the wild cardinals across the US that is severely crippling them to the point that they aren't going to live more than a month tops. The ORA captive raised ones are pretty small, but at least they stay alive!

I do have 2 of my offspring left in different tanks and am going to try to get at least 2 pairs matched up so I can start breeding them again.

If I were you I would get your LFS to get some in from ORA. If you are interested in breeding them you might try to find a source for another captive raised one so you don't end up with a brother and sister making babies! ;)

Good luck, but I strongly recommend captive raised banggais until they get whatever is wrong with the wild ones sorted out.

FWIW, Nathan
