You may not be seeing any phosphates because the algae is consuming it and using it to grow. The CC in the eheim is probably filled with detritus. I used to clean my Fluval weekly and was amazed at how much funk got trapped in there. I'd say, ditch the CC in the eheim and do several large water changes a couple of times a week for a few weeks to see if you can get ahead of all the excess nutrients that are fueling the algae bloom.

Any fuge in place? What's your maintenence routine like?

silicates? photoperiod? are you using an RO unit? as soon as I started using an RO unit, I saw a significant reduction of algae of all forms.

Canister filter...detritus trap...I second Sugar Magnolia.

Why are canisters still even used on aquariums in general? they seem to cause more trouble than good. I understand they can polish water really well, but all that junk thats trap in them...

I have never figured out why people dislike them. As long as you clean them every week they remove a ton of gunk from the tank...
