There are 2 species of Asthenosoma, A. varium ( reaching a size of 25 cm) and A. ijimai (reaching a size of 20 cm). A. varium is found from the Red Sea to Austrailia to the Philippines while A. ijimai is found in the Indo-Australian Archepelago and towards Japan. Both species are easily feed most aquarium foods but are carnivores and will readily feed on most invertebrates that we keep in our reef aquariums.
So while being quite large and not reef safe they are extremely toxic and their spines can easily puncture heavy diving gloves.
If aquired (and a big if at that) they should be kept in species only tanks by very cautious keepers.
