I've gotten terribly addicted to feeding my fish. My goal is to have really fat, healthy fish but I think I may be over-doing it ;) They also seem on the hunt for food, and I keep obliging.

I'm curious how often you guys feed your fish.

I'm really bad about feeding, I seem to forget to do it! After seeing what can happen to a tank that is overfed I'm afraid it'll happen again.

nori on the clip once, mysis or other frozen food once, and flakes once. And target feeding lps after dark on occasion.

I've gon long periods of only feeding once a day though. Like you, I'm obsessed with my tank at the moment, and am definitely not feeding too little!

i've never had a problem with keeping them fat. . . its the conspecifics that i have trouble with. . . seems if you keep them well fed they tend to be better reef citizens! 2x each day am & pm

I am supposed to feed once a day

I skip 2 days a week normally though...

I am thinking about keeping that routine but adding a morning feeding just for my longnosed hawkfish who is skinny, and trying to feed my yellow polyps at night a couple times a week.

I can't get them fed without the other fish tearing them up, so I am going to have to do something, the soda bottle trick was a disaster...

My auto feeder is set to feed flake twice per day.

I usually throw a cube of frozen food at night.

I also put seaweed select on a clip two or three times a week.

So I am over two times a day for sure, and my fish are fat and happy.

Sometimes I even feed 'em more, but real small feedings. I want to make sure my Anthias feeds as close as possible to natural without polluting the tank.

How do those auto-feeders work out? I have visions of flake food floating on the surface and down over the overflow.

That will happen of you don't modify your feeder such that there is a piece of pipe (or something) that the flake falls into. Install the pipe from the feeder to just below the water surface. The pipe keeps the flakes in one place until they sink.

Some of your more aggressive fish will feed directly from the pipe. My foxface rabbit fish, sailfin tang, and scotts fairy wrasse always gets the most food.

I didn't use pipe. I used a section of a clear 20 oz. Dasani bottle.

I suppose it depends on a whole lot of things.

Size of tank
Amount of fish
Type of fish
Anything else benefiting from the food
Type of food
Skimming?

In my 10 gallon I have two false percs and a regular old HOB filter. They get feed a variety of foods and the feeding schedule changes depending on the type I give them. For instance, if I am feeding a flake I may give them small amounts more often. Meaty foods like shrimp, frozen formula 1, etc. I soak in garlic and feed a little less often. In turn they tear up the meatier food pretty good and my anemone, crabs, snails, and anything that feeds off the water column gets a bit of a feeding as well.

Not that this was a real help; just what is working for me.
