With a power outage will I get water back through a Seaswirl?. Should a hole be drilled in elbow closer to the surface?

I get backflow through mine. It used to be stopped with a check valve, but it since went bad. The hole idea sounds like it should work. If you try it let me know if it works (how big a hole you need).

It will back siphon. Either drill a hole or use a good check valve like the one Marine Depot sells. Most check valves suck IMO ;)

The holes wotk fine. About 3/16" dia hole just under the running water line. I have never used a check valve, but it is one more thing to maintain and worry about.
