Dying Snail?

I have a Turbo that is moving real slow and has been for a couple of weeks. He moves from one spot on the glass near the bottom, to a spot on the sand near the glass. I had a couple of hermits do the same thing in this same corner in the tank.

I have good circulation on the whole 55 gal. I have 2 powerheads, a maxijet1200 on my Skimmer, and two empty HOB mech filters.

Are they all getting old at the same time? Poison? My Shrimp was caught finishing off the latest hermit to do this.

Any ideas?

Not sure Matt, but have you checked at night as well? It could be that the snail is taking it easy when the lights are off and most active when you don't watch him. Snails often return to the same place during the day, so it might be that he's been travelling even if he's in more or less the same place in the morning.

Another option is that there is some sort of pollutant. Have you checked nitrates/nitrites?

I'm sure I don't need to tell you, but if and when it's obvious he's died, fish him out quick! Otherwise your nitrates will go through the roof.

HI.. I think as long as hes moving hes fine. I've had one stay in one place for 4 days... haha I think its time to check his vital signs!

Common Turbin snail problems:

Salinity lower than 35ppt
Reef temps for a temperate species
temperate temps for a tropical species
starvation
osmotic shock during acclimation
copper adsorbed onto surfaces from using tap water

Or, as stated above, it could just be nocturnal

Turbin snails are long lived so I doubt they are all getting old at the same time.
