ok i have not used a calcium reactor but ive seen them in use and i know a certain amount about them.

i just relocated from los angeles to south florida and what i want to know is, the coral sand and gravel i find everywhere down here can i use it in a calcium reactor instead of buying media? if so that basically means my backyard is made out of money isnt it?

i also noticed that since they dont have real ROCKS here and they're all pieces of dead coral skeleton i have endless pieces of rock to glue frags to dont i?

and yes i am well aware it is illegal to take liverock from the ocean.

Any calcium carbonate that does not have significant of impurity can pretty much used as the medium for ca rxtor. As long as it does not leak phosphate/nitrate/heavy metal, you are in good shape.

ashes to ashes dust to dust i guess

all of south florida was once one big gigantic reef which is what all the rocks are made of. thered be kind of a cool element to the fact that all my frags would be growing from the remains of a massive ancient coral reef.

Unfortunately, there is just not much calcium being created after the solar system was formed, so it must be recycled somehow.
