My skimmer has sprung a leak and since I dont feel like fixing it and possibly having it happen again. Time for a new one! Yay!

Whats everyone got? Please help by recommending something! I need something for a 200g tank, 60g refug, roughly 150lbs LR, quickly becoming full reef, and most importantly under $500.

Thanks all

Heres what I'm looking at so far:

ASM G2 w pump rated 200g: $240
ASM G3 w pump rated 250g: $265
Kent Marine Nautilius TE wo pump rated 300g: $178
Berlin XL Turbo wo pump rated 500g: $220

All these prices were taken from Dr. Foster/smith, saltwaterfish.com and pet solutions

If I were shopping for an ASM skimmer for that size system I would go with a G-4X or a G-5 (both within your stated budget).

I like Ben's suggestion too - personally I'd go for the SK-1620 model (would be nice powered by a Mak4), although that would be a few bucks more than you wanted to spend.

Thank you everyone for your replies!

Anyone ever heard of ASM or had/ have one?
Anyone have a berlin they could give me feed back on?

Thanks for the link ben, I'm going to do some reading on that one when I get back from work in the morning.

Ok I bought a ASM G4x today

Its rated at 450 gallons and comes complete with a sedra 9000 pump for $336 including shipping

It was either that or aquaC EV-240 which runs about $399 without pump + shipping.

They both use the same system of creating foam, it basically just came down to price.

Aqua c skimmers use a spray injection system while ASM's are needle wheel venturi injected, right? Not the same method.

In any case hope you like your skimmer!

Thats what I would get anyhow.

That's a sweet skimmer! Talk about bells and whistles. Has the ports for eveything (ozone, ca reactor, air flow meter). That thumbscrew-less twist lock looks very nice. I HATE the zillion thumbscrews I have.

The thrumbscrew-less locking flanges on the Barr skimmer are great, breaking down for cleaning is a breeze. We love ours and would highly, highly recommend them.
