cool thing is. if i use the valve ill have an extra pump; so i canhook up 2 pumps to it and turn one off at night for calmer night time. or just make it random using those lamp timers ( the ones that actualy have a random setting)

$345 for the motorized ball valve? What size is it? I notice it is Hayward.

AFAIK, X10 does not support "soft start" (whatever the marketing department wanna call it ).

I would go the ocean motions route. Some on here had an OM squirt set up to use only 2 ports. The other two they plugged. The nice thing about this is if you ever change your mind and want to use all the ports all you need to do is buy a new drum.

I would bet a ball valve cycling once a minute will wear out quickly. I used to do industrial controls. What fits here is a solenoid control valve. Check some industial control supply houses.

Industrial ball valve like Hayward and PlastiOMatic is made for millions of cycle. The cheaper alternative may not last long. But yeah, one cycle per minute is kind of quick, and it may not accomplish much if you have it cycle that fast for your tank. Keep in mind that it will take several seconds for the ball valve to go from one position to another.

Solenoid valve has much quicker response, but they are for small orifice like 1/8 to 1/2 inch. They are also rated for millions of cycle per device.

Sprinkler valve is usually solenoid type valve. The ball valve version is usually not heavy duty since they are meant to be turn on/off maybe once or twice a day. Beside, majority have metal part in them.

Solenoid is not loud other than a tick sound when it activate/deactive. Ball valve has a reasonably quiet motor that will make noise while ti turn the ball.

Why do you need a 1 minuite cycle?

I thought a short cycle was important and had included a tunze (on my 90 & 100) in my wavemaker setup. I then found out that this was NOT a good thing for the Tunze. I changed the cycle to 30 minutes. I could not find ANY effect on my SPS tank or my softie tanks. ......actually it was better.

Why spend the money!

Any chance you could post a link to where we can find a pneumatic valve? Looks like a great idea.[/quote]

It is a new product which will be first shown in the coming AQUARAMA 2005 in Singapore on 26th May,05. A description leaflet on the system is attached.
